Can ISP's and P2P Work Together?

Can ISP's and P2P Work Together, presented by Pando and Verizon at NANOG in San Jose.

Laird Popkin, Pando Networks and Doug Pasko, Verizon presented at the North American Network Operator's Group conference in San Jose on February 18th.

P2P networking poses challenges to many ISP's. The P4P Working Group is a forum for ISP's and P2P networks to find ways to work together in order to make p2p more efficient. The P4PWG is co-chaired by Pando Networks and Verizon Communications, based on research from Yale University. Core Group members include AT&T, Bezeq International, BitTorrent, CacheLogic, Cisco Systems, Grid Networks, Joost, LimeWire, Manatt, Pando Networks, PeerApp, Telefonica Group, VeriSign, Verizon, Vuze, Univeristy of Washington and Yale University. Early results are very positive, yielding up to 2x performance speedups for users, and up to 2x link utilization reduction for ISP's.

Here is the full presentation.

Pando Silverlight Demo

If you would like to see how Pando works with Silverlight, take a look at the Pando Silverlight Demo Player.

Note that this player isn't a product, but is used as an example of how one can integrate Pando into a Silverlight application relatively easily using our JavaScript libraries.

Pando support in Forums

There are now several modules adding Pando support to forums.

In addition to Pando mode for SMF there are now Pando BBCode for InvisonPower Board and VBulletin!

Thanks to phcorp for creating these new modules!

"Leopard" is amazingly fast!

In our testing of Pando, file sending using "Leopard" is astoundingly faster than "Tiger" or Windows XP. This is for LAN transfers, of course - you can't get speeds like this across the general internet. But it is quite impressive how fast it can move data when the LAN is capable.

Windows XP: 6 MB/s
Mac OS X "Tiger" 10.4: 8 MB/s
Mac OS X "Leopard" 10.5: 22 MB/s

I don't know what Apple did, but the performance is stunning - it's the only desktop OS that we've seen that's as fast as server-class operating systems.

Pando mode for SMF

in order to use customized boxes of pando in your forum, it adds some functionalities like:
- name of the download
- to trim the name of uploader when it exceeds 14 characters not to deform box
- numbers of downloads
- if this the expired or not the package
- size of the file: it is possible to be changed I number of decimal .for default shows 2
- is not necessary to download the pando file to hard disk work as elinks.
- more information (thanks to lucisto)
- customized small box (thanks to blackangel)

if it gives problems you when installing you can install following it manually the instructions of this web
single you upload the mod and appear that archives to edit or you extract all the files in the same folder and open pandobbcode.xml with any browser like IE or ff and show the files to edit using styles

Update: Is Pando Installed?

When integrating Pando on a web page, it is often helpful to know whether a user has Pando installed already or not (for example, to decide whether to use pando protocol URL prefixes like pando:subscribe). We track Pando's installed status using a browser cookie, but only pando.com domains can read this cookie. We made available an http redirect tool for detecting Pando's installed status. This worked but is a somewhat fragile and cumbersome to implement.

To make this more seamless, we added a method to our javascript API (PandoAPI.js) called hasPando to allow any web page to use javascript to modify the page depending on the status of the installed cookie. I put together a detailed example. Enjoy! Feedback is appreciated.

Pando Networks Announces P2P Video Streaming Service

New York (June 21, 2007) - Pando Networks Inc., creators of the Internet’s fastest growing managed peer-to-peer content delivery platform, today announced a new service to enable commercial content owners and media companies to stream and download full-screen HD-quality video to unlimited audiences, with their existing content delivery networks (CDNs), at a fraction of cost of using CDNs alone. The service, Pando Publisher, just garnered Pando Networks this year’s TechCrunch Top Connected Innovator award, to be presented at the Supernova 2007 conference today in San Francisco.

Pando Command Line released!

Pando is pleased to be able to announce the release of the Pando Command Line (pcl, pronounced "pickle"). This tool allows you to integrate Pando into web sites and other automated processes.

The Pando Command Line allows you to automate:

  • publishing content from a content management system into the Pando network, including your own package thumbnail graphics, and
  • downloading content from the Pando network.

One PCL user has already provided a Ruby script to automatically receive Pando packages via email!

We are very excited about all of the possibilities that this presents, and look forward to seeing all of the amazing things that you guys will come up with!

To request a copy of PCL, fill out the request form, and tell us whether you want the version for Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux.
